ALTA VISTA OFFERS PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
<< return to news & events
Alta
Vista is currently offering the first phase of the program to
twenty-nine teachers from seven schools.
In
accordance with the performance-based system created by the
Washington
State
legislature, teachers certified after September 1, 2000, are required to
obtain a Professional Certificate within the five-year period following
their Residency Certificate. SPU's solution, which satisfies this
requirement, is a program based on self-assessment, planning and
demonstration of performance. Each Candidate must satisfactorily address
3 standards and
12 competency areas with the
assistance of their Professional Growth Team.
SPU offers local districts the opportunity to enter into a partnership
with SPU, a partnership in which SPU provides the curriculum and the
partner provides the instructor.
The intent of this arrangement is to allow districts to shape the
work of their Professional Certification Candidates according to their
district goals for school improvement.
Alta Vista is pleased to be able to provide a venue in which
Christian teachers serving in schools with similar missions and visions
can work together to fulfill the requirements of the program.
